Therapeutic use:
- Used for the treatment of respiratory diseases.
- Beneficial effects include bronchodilation, enhanced mucociliary clearance, stimulation of the respiratory center, increased sensitivity to PaCO2, increased diaphragmatic contractility, mast cell stabilization, and mild inotropic effect.

Bronchodilation: 20 mg/kg orally once every 24 hours, or 10 mg/kg orally every 12 hours (may increase to 15 mg/kg every 12 hours if no adverse effects at the lower dose). Note: the manufacturer recommends once-daily dosing only. Some sources suggest that the extended-release formulation given every 12 hours is needed to maintain therapeutic serum levels.
Cats:
Bronchodilation: 15–19 mg/kg orally once every 24 hours (extended-release formulation).
Thiamazole / Methimazole (Tapazole, Felimazole)
